Excited about the upcoming season
It is exciting to see so many people interested in what we were trying to accomplish, not only from the stand point of riders, but also from sponsors. I would personally like to take the time now to thank all of them for their support. Thank you also, to everyone on or associated with the team that worked deligently on obtaining the sponsors we needed to make this all possible. It really is exciting to see what is possible when people get serious, propose a plan, and work together to make it happen. Our efforts have only begun. Now we can direct our focus towards the race season, where again, we can work together to make our dreams a reality. I look forward to riding, competing, and having fun together this coming season.

Christmas
I just wanted to write and let everyone know what is going on with me. I was looking forward to our first group ride together on Sun. 12-17-06, but my vacation plans changed and now I will be leaving on the 16th. Unfortunately I am going to miss the ride. Those of you who have ridden with me before are probably relieved and for those who have not ridden with me will find out soon enough what its like. Just kidding, I think. I have ridden with several of our teammates before and even though I am not the best rider, I make one heck of a domestique. Just ask James, Vern, Ron, and John.
Anyway, I will be in the Smokey Mountains snowboarding the week of 12-16 through 12-23. Hopefully there will be another team ride in the near future that I can participate in. I hope all of you have a fun and safe ride. I'm sure there will be a blog on it when I get back so I look forward to hearing about it. Everyone have a Merry Christmas.

Cycle-Logic Holiday Team Gathering/ Group Ride
Seeing as how the Cycle-Logic Team is spread out through 4 counties in Central Florida, I thought it might be a good idea for us all to get together for a social ride so we can all get to know each other.
Since we are now about 17 strong, I realize it may be difficult for the entire team to coordinate their schedules to be available on the same day. On that note, I hoped giving enough advanced notice to everyone might help.
The Flemington Community Park (yes, the park that we visit twice on the Horsefarm Hudred) seems to be a good mid-point between Leesburg and Gainesville, and a short drive from all locations, as well as having some of the most picturesque riding in the state. We are currently working on a scenic 40 mile route with rolling hills that should be within the capacity of all riders. Maps will be provided prior to beginning the ride.
The meeting place will be: Flemington - intersection of 100 Ave Rd and CR 329
Date: Sunday, December 17, 2006
Time: 9:30 am
Directions:
Exit #368 off of I-75 (CR 318).
Proceed west on CR 318 to CR 329.
Turn right (north) on CR 329 to the Flemington Community Park on the left.
If you need to Mapquest it, the address is:
Flemington Community Park
18200 N Hwy 329
Flemington, FL
The focus of this ride will be team building, and getting to know our teammates. We understand that some of our racers are gearing up for the upcoming race season, and a social ride may not be in your training schedule, but it would be nice to have as many of the Cycle-Logic teammates attend as possible.
By the way, I've contacted the Red Bull energy team to try and meet us before the ride to 'energize' us!!

Sponsorship
I hope we are all working hard on obtaining sponsors. I myself delivered all my packets in the first two days that I had them. So far the response has been a positive one. I realize the first sponsor was an easy one for me because it was my business, but I have received money from some other businesses as well. If all of us are being as consistent as myself, I don't see where we are going to have any problems raising the money we need to establish ourselves as the team we want to be.
Just to give you an idea of my leads I would like to name them for you. I will start with those who have already given us a commitment: Pittman and Son Pest Control and Performance Parts are the only two that have already given money. Lincare (a health care business), Quality Banner (a banner company), and Compass Gym all have shown a very promising interest in what we are trying to accomplish. My lead with the most potential for our primary sponsor spot is the Ocala Eye Surgery Center. They too have shown a great interest in our team. The marketing director as well as a couple of doctors who work there are very interested in helping us. Hopefully they will have time this week to present our information to the remaining doctors on the commitee and make a decision in time for us to have them on board.
I have been able to get a few of our packets back from those who were either not interested or those who did sponsor us. I plan on targeting a few other potetial leads before our deadline. Even though time is running out I think there is a possibility that we can get more. So keep working hard. I will keep everyone posted on my progress.

Sponsorship Packets are in!
By now you should have all received sponsorship packets. If you have any questions, contact James Penrod.
Remember, in order for a sponsor's logo to make it onto the jersey for the 2007 season, they'll need to have signed the contract and supplied us with their company's logo by December 15th!
Also, be sure to stay in communication with either James or Paul concerning sponsors who have signed or are going to sign.

Team Meeting recap...
We got right down to business and did a lot of talking about the Team Packet. The packet outlines a lot of very useful information for potential sponsors. It also contains the rider bios that each of us filled out. These packets are going to be very instrumental in our efforts to secure sponsorship for the upcoming season. We set a budget and a timeline for the completion of the packets and I can gladly report that we are on schedule and under budget. We plan on having the packets to all of you by the first of next week. In the meantime, you can study up on all the sponsorship information by going to the Team Packet PDF. This is just a screen resolution PDF and should not be printed. While you're perusing our Team Profile, you can also read about your new Cycle Logic teammates.
We then got down to talking about the Team Kit (jersey and shorts). We have a working design that's pretty close to final, all we need is some real sponsor logos to fill it up and we're set. In order for us to have our kits in by the time racing starts in February, we'll need to send off our design to be sublimated (printed) before Christmas. This means that we need to start pounding the pavement ASAP. Those of you who have some good leads with potential sponsors, don't hesitate to talk to them. Below is the "working design" for our Cycle Logic Kit.
We snapped a bunch of photos of each other, most of which can be seen in the team packet and lastly we tried on some cycling jerseys and shorts from the fit kit sent to us by Z bike wear. For those of you who were unable to attend sundays meeting, and were wanting to try on some sample clothing, the fit kit needed to be returned ASAP. One thing to remember when ordering time comes is that Z bike wear uses European sizing...so if you normally wear a Large jersey, chances are that you'll need an XL for our kit.
If you have questions about sizing, you can consult Z bike wear's website here -or- James has got a pretty good idea of the sizing after sifting through dozens of differnt articles of cycling-wear.
Feel free to leave a question, comment or concern and we'll talk to you all soon.

The excitement is growing, and the team is growing just as quickly.
The team profile and sponsors packet is in the final stages right now. These profiles will be used as a marketing tool to attract sponsors to any one of our 4 sponsorship levels. There are already more than a couple of serious leads with companies willing to lend their money and support to our fledgling team. If you have any leads for potential monetary or product sponsors, please keep us posted so we can provide you with a presentation packet.
We have ordered team logo T-shirts for those riders that have expressed interest thus far, and we are planning our first team gathering for next Sunday, November 12, 2006 at 2:00 in the Ocala town square where we will also have a team and individual photos taken to finalize the presentation packets.
Directions:
From G-ville take I-75 south to the Hwy 40 exit. Go east until you reach the downtown square. We will meet on the corner adjacent to Harry's Restaurant.
We are hoping the second team T-shirt order arrives by this date, but in case they don't, a few people may have to improvise. The T-shirts that were ordered are grey, so please bring or wear a grey T-shirt (with as little graphics as possible) so we can all blend in.
I know we all have busy schedules, and that it may be necessary for some teammates to miss this meeting. We would, however like as many teammates to attend as possible in order to get a good team photo, and to familiarize ourselves with OUR team.
If needed, we can arrange for another photo session to include the entire team.

Team Startup Update - Cycle Logic
Who is Cycle-Logic?
Cycle Logic is a budding new team currently consisting of several up and coming Category 4 and 5 cyclists. We started The Cycle Logic Bicycle Racing Team, well because 'it just makes sense'. Individually, we come from different sporting backgrounds including triathlon, swimming, running, bodybuilding and football, but cycling has brought us all together. We have all been riding for some time, and our racing experience ranges from one to several years. While batting around the idea of forming a new team, we all agreed the key to a successful team, is a successful team atmosphere where the concentration is first and foremost on enjoying ourselves and our friendship while supporting each other at races and events.
Currently we are working on finalizing some important presentation information to provide potential sponsors and teammates. Once the initial footwork is complete, we will be hitting the road, drumming up sponsorship throughout Central Florida.
We are all excited about Team Cycle Logic, and look forward to showing off our team in the spring of 2007.

Why I started biking: I originally started cycling when I was in middle school because Greg Lemond was my hero, I thought aero-bars were cool and I was "training" for the MS150. Then I went to college, didn't ride at all, drank too much beer, gained some weight, graduated and needed to get back in shape.
Favorite bike ride: Any ride where I'm first to the city limit sign, first to the sprint sign at the end of the ride and don't get dropped in the hills along the way.
Greatest accomplishment: On the bike - Following the 2009 Tour de France and riding climbs like Verbier, Alp D'Huez, Petit Saint Bernard, Telegraph, Galibier, Col de Romme and Mont Ventoux.
Off the bike - My two beautiful kids.
Way off the bike - Placing 5th at the World Bartending Championships, 2003.

My Steed: Specialized Tarmac Expert
Why I started biking: I ran cross country all throughout high school, and my first year of college. I would get injuries periodically due to stress fractures, and would ride my bike to cross train. It didn't take me long to figure out that biking was way more fun than running.
Favorite bike ride: Six Gap Century, 2006!! My boyfriend and I rode together, which made the experience a lot of fun...despite the fact that it POURED for nearly the entire ride! I was scared to death on the descents, but I loved the climbs. It was beautiful and epic and I loved every minute of it!
Greatest accomplishment: If I get through it, completing my Ph.D will be my greatest accomplishment.
Strangest bike setup ever seen: Handlebar streamers on a super-expensive carbon fiber bike at Superweek in Wisconsin. It was awesome.
Dream Bike: I don't really have one. Anything that's reliable and shifts OK is fine for me. Besides, it's the legs and heart that count, not the bike.

Lake Mary race report - Ken Sallot
I arrived at the course right before the Juniors race and I got the opportunity to watch Justin Pfaff barnstorm the group and rack up his second W for the weekend. He really dug deep and threw it all on the line for the sprint finish, nearly puking his guts out in the process. For being all of 11, that kid's both strong willed and a talented rider. Scotty, drop your son now every chance you get because you won't be able to in another three years.. ;)
After the Juniors I relaxed in a lawn chair and watched the P/1/2 race. The combination of beautiful weather and a wide open course meant that the pros were ripping the roads up while barnstorming down the way. When there was about twenty minutes left in that race a break of six riders, including Ryan Saylor, got away that had the potential to stick.
With Herbalife blocking at the front of the main peloton, there was no reason the break couldn't stick, but unfortunately for Ryan they got reeled in with just a few laps to go.
The schedule called for the Womens 1/2/3 race followed by the Womens 4 and then Cat3. Since I knew I wanted a long warm-up immediately after the P/1/2 race I went to my car and started getting everything setup. After 40 minutes of trainer time my hip was feeling better and my legs were feeling loose; it was time to go get off the trainer and finish my
warm-up in the street.
I hooked up with Ben Page and Eric Stubbs during the warm-up and we chatted for awhile. Ben's been making a name for himself by cleaning up in the cat4's over the past few weeks. He's a heck of a strong sprinter and he's in it to win it every time -- he should be a cat3 next weekend.
We had a good warm-up and lined up on the sideline when the cat3s had 3 laps to go, trying to get our chance at the hole shot. There were 52 people in the field, all of us fighting for a spot on the starting line, and a lot of them were Orlando locals and young pups -- the race was going to be interesting.
The whistle blew and wouldn't you know it, I completely missed my clip-in. Oh well, it was not a big deal because over the past few weeks I've worked on my ability to ride the tail-gunner spot on a crit without
expending any energy, and for what I had planned I was going to need every ounce of strength at the end of the race.
I quickly settled in to the last third of the field to watch what was going on and see who else was there to play. Penrod and I were the only guys sporting the Orange and Gray in the cat4 race on Sunday, and we had no real team game plan except to go play and have fun. As usual, after about fifteen minutes the pace settled down after the rabbits burned
themselves out. I also watched one guy play human pinball by bouncing off of riders left and right while showing everyone that he couldn't keep a line to save his life and that he didn't care about crashing out the entire field behind him. He was quickly marked as "that guy" and a bunch of us started making comments to each other about him.
A few more minutes into the race, I decided to have some fun with everyone and tried to get four or five other people around me to join in a rousing rendition of Queen's Bicycle Race. In hindsight, I guess most people don't know how to sing when running at 180bpm because our singing was off key and we couldn't get our lyrics straight. Maybe next time we can just do row your boat, or something everyone else has burned deep into the limbic portion of their brain.
Meanwhile, I continued to pack surf figuring out the perfect spot for an attack while watching the clock tick down. When we got to seven minutes + five laps I knew my time was coming and moved up from the back of the pack to sixth, then sat in until the next lap. At five plus five I launched off the front with the idea of breaking the rubber band and time trialing the last ten minutes to the W.
Two laps into my solo flier I started to settle down and ease up to let my HR drop down into the 192-194 range (my max is 204), with the idea of just riding it out. But, much to my chagrin, Henry called for a prime in an effort to get the peloton to chase me down and I knew I'd have to bust my ass for at least one more lap. So I picked it back up to 198 and hoped not to blow-up in the process.
I won the prime on my third lap off the front, but the door was quickly shutting down on me and I was picked up 1/2 lap later. I decided to sit in a lap, grab a quick drink, and then try again. With 3.5 laps to go I attacked and got away again, but this time ORC realized what I was up to and shut me down pretty quickly -- I swear one kid even did a sprint
throw at the line finishing the third lap.
After being shut down a second time I was debating a third assault, but as we came into the 2nd to the last lap the squirrels came out and the field started acting sketchy. Considering I was already going home with some road rash and a prime, I decided to just settle in for a pack finish.

All too old to be meaningful.
My Steed: 1995 Trek OCLV updated with Campagnolo Record 10 speed.
Why I started biking: I was always interested in cycling as a kid. After completing service in the Navy, I decided to try competitive cycling.
Favorite bike ride: The roads around the Barkhamsted Reservoir in Hartland, CT.
Greatest accomplishment: I don't know about great, but my most satisfying achievement on the bike was receiving my upgrade to cat-3 on the morning of the northeast regional road race, June 1992. That made the regional R.R. my inaugural cat-3 race. With no cat-3 only field being offered that day, I had to race with the 1-2-3 field, covering 120 miles. I made the final break with five other riders, and finished sixth overall. This remains my longest day of racing.
Off the bike I consider my work with dogs and dog related groups to be my greatest contribution.
Dream Bike: New Trek Madone 6.9 Pro!
Highest recorded 'on-bike' speed/ location: 68mph - Wachusett road stage, 1993 Fitchburg Stage Race.

My Steed: Trek 2300 (of course the highly modified Italian stallion version)
Why I started biking: To cross train for running. I was on the cross country team at Lake Wier High at the time and was looking for something else to do besides run for training. It was a lot of fun and soon became my main hobby.
Favorite bike ride: When its just myself and one or two friends, about 80 degrees, and I don't have anything else to do besides go for a nice long ride.
Greatest accomplishment: MVP for the cross country and track team at my high school, and of course coming a few seconds away from breaking the school record for a 5k run...yeah!
Strangest bike setup ever seen: I work at a bike shop and we get some pretty weird ones in for service. I don't think it is possible to think of one in particular...there is too many! Although one that I can remember is a guy that custom made a 20" kids bike into an adult size three-wheeler for himself. It was equipped with MTB bar ends (you know for hammering up the climbs) and this huge gel seat, (for time trialing to the grocery store).
Dream Bike: Either the 2007 TCR advanced frameset with integrated aero seat post (one piece carbon frame and seat post), or the Specialized Tarmac SL, with the new SRAM Force group, Zipp 303 wheels, and my comfy SLK saddle. I can see it now...leaning against my truck with a hot supermodel posing next to it...the wind blowing her hair...
